Launch of the “Tamarack Alumni Wall of Fame”

On Sunday, September 18^th, 2011, several camp alumni returned to Tamarack to join us for the launch of our brand new ‘Tamarack Alumni Wall of Fame”. The following individuals were enshrined as our first inductees for their dedication and commitment to Tamarack and overall leadership:

Mia Brown – 1981-1997 – Camper, Windsports Staff, Head of Windsports

Lorne London – 1982-1986 – Sequoia Counsellor, Sequoia Unit Head

Corey Singer – 1983-1995 – Juniper Counsellor, Juniper Unit Head, Program Director

Debbie Donsky – 1985-1993 – Camper, Fine Arts Staff, Babysitter, Counsellor, Head of Fine Arts

Shael Risman – 1985-1992 – Juniper Counsellor, Sequoia Counsellor, Elder Advisor, Head of Theatre

Josh Cappel – 1985-1999 – Camper, Juniper Counsellor, Juniper Unit Head

Lindsay (Birnbaum) Cohen – 1987-2003 – Camper, Juniper Counsellor, Program Director

Nicole (Luks) Clarfield – 1989-2005 – Camper, Swim Staff, Head of Swim, Head of Activities

David Buckspan – 1991 – 1997 – Juniper Counsellor, Juniper Unit Head, Program Director, Head Counsellor

Jon Burton – 1994 – 2004 – Camper, Hawthorn Counsellor, Hawthorn Unit Head, Head Counsellor

These ten Alumni influenced the lives of thousands and the ceremony on Sunday was a special time to show our appreciation. Each inductee received a personalized plaque to take home. Every year, we will continue to add more alumni to our new wall!

It was particularly special to have Shael Risman with us on Sunday as he is the original composer of our camp song ‘Tamarack, I Wanna Go Back’. Shael performed the song himself and then the led all of our guests in a group sing-along. There was incredible electricity in the dining hall as Tamarackers new and old recited the song together. Alumni sports, barge rides, zip-lining, searching for names on old plaques and more topped of a wonderful day.

We look forward to hosting more Alumni days, weekends, and events in the near future!

Tamarack Alumni Marnie Sieger and David Coopersmith Join Tamarack Leadership Team!

Tamarack is thrilled to announce the recent hiring of Marnie Sieger (B.A, B.A.A, B.Ed) as its new Program Director responsible for Scheduling  & Special Programs!

Marnie spent 15 summers at Camp Tamarack, both as a camper and a staff member, and she is thrilled to be coming back to her ‘home away from home’ as a Program Director. In the years since she has been at camp, she has been extremely busy working as a teacher for the York Region District School Board and being a mom to three amazing eight year olds who alone will increase our Hawthorn population! Marnie can’t wait to bring her caring, fun-loving and creative personality back to enhance and be part of the Tamarack community.

We are also pumped to announce David ‘Coops’ Coopersmith as Tamarack’s new Head Counsellor! 

David Coopersmith is married to Susan and has two children, Ryan and Sarah. He is currently an elementary school teacher in the Toronto District School Board. David has been involved in the camping industry for the past 25 years in different capacities ranging from sports staff to unit head and, most recently, camp director at Camp Arrowhead. David is also a Camp Tamarack alumnus, and is passionate about the importance of camping in the emotional and personal growth of children. David is excited to come back to Camp Tamarack and can’t wait for the summer!
